Nico Holmberg Machine Learning Data Scientist
Top Data Science Ltd
Helsinki, Finland

Biography

Nico obtained a PhD in Computational Quantum Chemistry from Aalto University in November 2018. He has been working as a Machine Learning Data Scientist at Top Data Science Ltd since January 2019, where he is currently developing deep learning solutions for computer vision projects. Nico was excited to leap into the fast-moving field of machine learning and AI because it is the perfect avenue for him to combine his love for computer simulations with solving practical, real-world challenges. Nico is optimistic that machine learning methods will spur technological advances on a broad scale ranging from healthcare to materials discovery.

During his PhD, Nico focused on simulating electrochemical phenomena on carbon nanostructures wielding supercomputers and density functional theory (DFT) as his main tools. He is the author behind the constrained DFT (CDFT) module in CP2K — a massively parallel open-source quantum chemistry and physics program — which is a powerful tool to model charge transfer processes on the atomic scale.

In his free time, Nico enjoys traveling and he is a recreational triathlete.
